The Department of Pediatrics at University at Buffalo (UB) Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is seeking to recruit an exceptional clinical and academic leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics.

The Chair of the Department of Pediatrics is a key leader within UB's Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and s/he will play a central role in advancing the mission, operations, and service of the Department, as well as the greater Buffalo Niagara region. During this historic period of transformation and growth, UB's Jacobs School of Medicine is officially opening a new 628,000-square foot medical school building. In addition, the Oishei Children's Hospital, a member of Kaleida Health and New York State's only freestanding children's hospital, just opened in November 2017. UB's Department of Pediatrics comprises 17 divisions, all actively engaged in research and dedicated to excellence in patient care and teaching. The Department is comprised of 100 pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists, 145 community pediatricians, and 45 residents. The Department has a pediatric residency program with subspecialty rotations, as well as nine accredited fellowship programs. Much of the research conducted by UB faculty has received national acclaim.

UB seeks in its next Chair of Pediatrics an exceptional clinician scientist with proven skills and values to lead a highly successful clinical, educational and research enterprise. S/he will be expected to exhibit a balance of commitment to these missions of the Department and to ensure that the outstanding training program will be further enhanced. The Chair will recruit and retain faculty, provide effective mentoring, create new clinical programs, and collaborate with other academic units and schools. The Department Chair will be expected to administer the volume, clinical quality, operations and financial performance of the Department. The Department Chair will be expected to collaborate effectively with the leadership of the University at Buffalo and affiliated health care partners, while being visible and active in the Western New York community to address its medical and programmatic needs. In addition to the Department Chairmanship, s/he will serve as the Pediatric Chief of Service for Oishei Children's Hospital and President of UBMD Pediatrics, a practice plan and premier provider of care for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults in Western New York and beyond.

The Chair, Department of Pediatrics will report to Dr. Michael Cain, Dean, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and Dr. David Hughes, System Chief Medical Officer of Kaleida Health.

Interested candidates should have an M.D. degree, board certification in Pediatrics and/or a Pediatric Subspecialty, have academic credentials appropriate for appointment to the rank of Full Professor, and be eligible for licensure in New York.
