The VA Central California Health Care System (VACCHCS), in Fresno, CA invites applications for the full-time physician position of Emergency Department (ED) Medical Director.  VACCHCS provides a full range of patient care services, as well as education and research. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary, secondary, and long-term care in the areas of primary care, specialty medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care. VACCHCS is affiliated with the UCSF Fresno Medical Education Program and provides a rich academic environment including postgraduate medical education training for residents and fellows in specialties and sub-specialties.


VACCHCS has an immediate opening for a board eligible/board certified physician in our ED. The candidate will serve as the Medical Director and will have direct medical staff supervision. The selected candidate will have administrative/ supervisory responsibilities as well as provide a full range of emergency care in the ED for Veterans at the VACCHCS main hospital in Fresno, CA. Applicants should have completed a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.  Preferred experience for this position is a candidate who is residency trained and board-eligible/certified in Emergency, Internal Medicine, or Family Practice with experience in an Emergency Medicine practice environment. The selected candidates must fulfill the qualifications for a faculty appointment at UCSF.  In addition, it is preferred that this candidate have teaching experience in the acute and ambulatory setting.  


Salary is dependent upon candidate’s prior experience and qualifications and the salary range is $220,000-$365,000. Direct patient care positions are subject to random drug testing procedures. Candidates must have a valid state license, and eligible to obtain a California medical license.
