  • JOB SUMMARY:

    The Physical Therapy Technician II may prepare patients for treatment; assist the Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant in patient care; be responsible for daily office operations such as scheduling; maintain records, billing and admitting patients; collect, processes and record statistical and CQI/TQM data; process and transmit information required by outside contracts. Individuals will be assigned to specific positions within the Restorative Therapies Department. However, all individuals will be cross trained and may be required to cover assignments other than their primary assignment, based upon departmental need.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1.              Assists the PT or PTA with patient treatments, especially gait training and transfers.

    2.             Monitors daily office operations including organization of work schedule, scheduling of
    patients, maintenance of charts and other records, billing and accepting referrals.

    3.              Collects, processes, and records statistical and CQI/TQM data.

    4.               Monitors patient records and insures that documentation is complete and current, to meet
    medical, legal, and billing needs.

    5.               Establishes needed procedures on computer, and maintains efficient use of office
    computers.

    6.              Processes and transmits information required by outside contracts, such as billing logs,
    monthly charges and service logs.

    7.              Assists with calculating and recording hours worked on employee time cards, maintains
    current time and pay records for all Restorative Therapies Department staff.

    8.               Delegates, supervises and assists with secretarial duties such as reception, typing, filing
    and dictation.

    9.                Makes up daily transport/treatment schedule for inpatients, directs volunteers and/or staff
    as needed to insure that all patients are seen as ordered.

    10.            Demonstrates job related aspects of patent safety to assure a safe environment, safe and
    effective use of equipment and technology, and decreased risk of potential adverse patient
    occurrences.

    11.            Maintains outpatient waiting list and insures adherence to established criteria to
    determine priority of various outpatient orders and minimize problems associated with a
    waiting list.

    12.            Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care
    appropriate to the age of patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles
    of growth and development over the life span and. possess the ability to assess data
    reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to
    identify each patient's requirements relative of his/her age-specific needs, and to provide
    the care needed as described in the unit's and division's policies and procedures.

    13.            Demonstrates knowledge of, and supports hospital's mission, vision, value
    statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions,
    confidentiality standards, corporate compliance plan, customer service
    standards and the code of ethical behavior.

    14.            Demonstrates appropriate awareness of infection control and patient/staff/life safety
    procedures.

     

    15.            Schedules patients.

    16.            Obtains insurance authorizations and verifies benefit coverage.

     

    OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1.             Cleans mats, parallel bars, and other treatment equipment

    2.                  Transports patients.

    3.                   Assists with maintaining adequate stocks of supplies and materials needed for treatment.

    4.                    Performs other duties as assigned.

    JOB SPECIFICATION:

    EDUCATION:

    High school graduate or equivalent. Formal training in secretarial skills,

    physical therapy, computer usage and/or office management desirable. Medical

    Terminology.

     

    EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in secretary and/or patient care duties preferred.

     

    JOB KNOWLEDGE:   

    Basic understanding of the ways in which the patient's age will affect the treatment program or patient's

    response.   Knowledge of English grammar and composition. Knowledge of medical terminology

    preferred. Basic understanding of the criteria used in organizing a waiting list and setting priorities.


    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Ability to access all controls and mechanisms needed to operate whirlpools. Ability to adjust height

    and angle of whirlpool agitators and regulate the flow of air and water.   Ability to scrub all inside

    surfaces of all whirlpools. Ability to passively place one or more of the patient's extremities in the

    whirlpool when the patient is unable. Sufficient strength and stability to support patient's during gait

    and transfer activities. Ability to travel independently within the department and within the hospital.

    Ability to open and unpack containers of supplies and place them in the correct location for storage or

    use. Ability to clean all mats, parallel bars, and other treatment equipment, using approved method..

    Ability to operate a computer keyboard and to file.
