Seeking General Thoracic Surgeon

The Division of Thoracic Surgery and Interventional Pulmonology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is seeking a general thoracic surgeon. This position is suitable for an early career surgeon, including those who might be taking their first job after fellowship training.

The surgeon will split their clinical responsibilities between Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and BIDMC-affiliated hospitals in Plymouth. The surgeon will work closely with a more senior partner in the Division to help develop a network of community thoracic surgical care.

Applicants must be board-certified/board-eligible in cardiothoracic surgery. The preferred candidate will have experience and/or training in a broad range of general thoracic surgery, including evaluation and treatment of lung and esophageal benign and malignant conditions, as well as diseases of the airway, mediastinum, chest wall, diaphragm, and pleura. Advanced skills in endoscopy, thoracoscopy, and laparoscopy are required. Robotic surgical training is an additional qualification, but is not mandatory. The ideal candidate should also possess exceptional teamwork, program development and mentorship abilities. In addition to clinical expertise, teaching ability as evidenced by awards or evaluations is an important qualification. Research experience and initiative will be also strongly considered. The successful candidate for this position will be proposed to Harvard Medical School for appointment as Instructor or Assistant Professor, commensurate with experience and achievements.

BIDH-Plymouth is an acute care, 150-bed community hospital serving 12 towns in Plymouth and Barnstable counties and is the largest hospital in the southern region of the South Shore. We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. Women and underrepresented minorities are particularly encouraged to apply. Applications are made online at www.hmfphysicians.org/careers. Please respond to requisition 171402.
