University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center

The Department of Surgery of the University of Maryland School of Medicine is seeking an academic breast surgical oncologist for its faculty in Baltimore. This individual will join the breast surgery service of the Greenebaum NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center and will participate in the research and quality improvement activities of the University of Maryland Cancer Network (UMCN). Altogether, the breast programs of the UMCN include 8 breast surgeons and care for nearly 1500 new breast cancer patients annually.

This full-time faculty position is designed for an academic breast surgeon whose goal is to develop clinical, quality improvement, and research programs in breast surgical oncology. The successful applicant will join the University of Maryland Department of Surgery in the Section of Surgical Oncology within the Division of General and Oncologic Surgery. This role will require significant interaction with a multidisciplinary team of individuals, including breast medical and radiation oncology faculty of The University of Maryland Marlene and Stuart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center. Metrics for success will include clinical program development as well as scholarship in the field of breast surgery.

Founded in 1807, the University of Maryland School of Medicine is the oldest public medical school in the United States. The Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center is a NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center ranked among the top cancer programs in the United States. The Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center has a robust basic and clinical research effort in breast cancer and was responsible for the development of aromatase inhibitors, now in worldwide use. The University of Maryland Cancer Network is the state-wide cancer network of the University of Maryland Medical System that cares for more than one in four of the 24,000 Marylanders diagnosed with cancer each year.
