Boston Children’s Hospital

Chair, Department of Pediatric Surgery

"At Boston Children's, we are servant leaders. It’s not about me, it’s not about any single one of us. We all contribute our expertise, our genius, our care, our devotion and our passion. We are here as a team to do one thing and that is to care for
our patients and families, and to support each other in doing that as colleagues, as team members, and as our own Boston Children's family." - Sandra L. Fenwick, President and CEO

Renowned for its outstanding clinical services, research programs and medical education, Boston Children's Hospital (BCH) is a 404-bed comprehensive center for pediatric health care. As one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the United States, Boston Children's offers a complete range of health care services for children from birth through 21 years of age. (BCH’s services can begin interventions at 15 weeks gestation and in some situations BCH also treats adults.) The hospital has approximately 25,000 inpatient admissions each year and its 200+ specialized clinical programs schedule 557,000 visits annually. Last year, the hospital performed more than 26,500 surgical procedures spanning all surgical specialties offered by BCH and 214,000 radiological examinations. As one of the premier pediatric teaching hospitals in the world, BCH is affiliated with Harvard Medical School (HMS), and is revered for its ongoing commitment to foster cutting-edge research.

BCH in conjunction with HMS, seeks to recruit the next Chair, Department of Pediatric Surgery, HMS. This prestigious appointee will lead a top Department comprised of 40 faculty (24 clinical and 16 research), including 10 professors, eight associate professors, 14 assistant professors, with eight endowed Chairs at BCH (seven clinical and one research), as well as seven at HMS (two clinical and five research). Faculty engaged in basic or clinical research are part of the renowned Vascular Biology Program or the Pediatric Surgical Research Lab at BCH. The Department has 16 inpatient and three outpatient nurse practitioners working in conjunction with Department providers who care for an average of 8,600 outpatient visits annually and performing more than 4,000 general pediatric surgery operative procedures each year. BCH is one of the largest pediatric surgery programs in the world.

aspiring investigators, and groom clinical faculty within the Department who have the capability to make bold new discoveries in a number of pediatric surgical sub-specialties. The Department provides an outstanding educational and
training program involving medical students from HMS and other schools, including three pediatric fellows, rotating general surgery residents from a number of partnering institutions, as well as HMS anatomy courses for first year and third/fourth year students.

A Medical Degree with unrestricted medical license is required while additional higher education credentials such as Master’s or Ph.D. in healthcare, business administration, or other related fields of study are preferred. Must be board
