Disability/Mental Health Specialist Portage Office: Coordinates and
implements disability and mental health services for pregnant mothers
and children from infancy to age 5 in a Head Start Program. Provides
coaching and technical assistance on effective teacher-child interactions,
effective social-emotional practices, and assist instructional staff in
promoting healthy, social-emotional environments to meet needs of
children. Observes classrooms and home visits, provides staff support
in childrens development and behavior management, and provides
education, training, and consultation to staff and parents in the areas
of special needs and mental health. Tracks developmental and social/
emotional screenings of children ensuring completion within 45 days of
a childs enrollment. Minimum of Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood
Special Education, Human Development, or similar field. Must have
knowledge of expected developmental levels for children and strategies
for working with children with varying abilities. Must be able to collect
and analyze data; establish respectful working relationships with staff,
parents and community professionals; accurately enter data in a database
program; and be willing to travel in a five county area. Excellent benefit
