JOB SUMMARY:
This Direct Hire recruitment is to fill positions based on a critical hiring need resulting from the outbreak and spread of the 'Coronavirus Disease 2019' (COVID-19), which has caused a public health emergency. As such, all applicants who meet the OPM Industrial Hygiene Series requirements and the minimum specialized experience qualifications stated in this announcement will be referred to hiring managers for further consideration.

DUTIES:
As an Industrial Hygienist you will: Serve as a recognized expert in industrial hygiene for the agency with responsibility for developing policy and objectives, coordinating responses to disasters and initiating requirements for the elimination or control of industrial environmental health hazards at their source. Provide advice in industrial hygiene for NIOSH with responsibility for developing policy and objectives, coordinating responses to disasters and initiating requirements for the elimination or control of industrial environmental health hazards at their source. Provide consultation on industrial hygiene evaluation and exposure assessment including the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of workplace hazards. Review and make recommendations in the area of emergency preparedness and response on classified information, reports, or briefs on chemical, radiation, and biological terrorism; release of the information could seriously damage national security. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Continuation of Requirements: Term appointments may be shortened or extended up to a maximum of four years based on the needs of the agency without further competition. Subsequent employment for CDC positions must be through the appropriate competitive process or special employment program hiring authorities. I have a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health science, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; Or I have completed a bachelor's degree : industrial hygiene; or in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable. Or I have a Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene; Or I have a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, determine the total acquired qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level. Then determine the completed education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. - at least 12 semester hours of course work in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours as specified in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience identifying, evaluating and controlling a wide variety of occupational health hazards associated with environmental health hazards.
