JOB SUMMARY:
The incumbent serves as a recognized expert in industrial hygiene for the agency with responsibility for developing policy and objectives, appraising programs and initiating requirements for the elimination or control of industrial environmental health hazards at their source. The industrial hygiene assignments are of such breadth as to cover complex problems in industrial and maintenance operations, and/or research, development, test and evaluations.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Basic Qualification Requirements: A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences or related science.
-OR- A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. -OR- A certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). Minimum Qualification Requirements: In addition to meeting the basic qualifications above, applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position as defined above to include experience providing leadership and guidance in the development, implementation and evaluation of standards for the elimination and control of industrial environmental health hazards. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
