Full-Time, Tenure-Track, Fully-Funded Multidisciplinary Medical Educator

Position Summary:
The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences (UT-COMLS) Medical School in Toledo, Ohio is seeking two full-time, tenure-track, fully-funded Multidisciplinary Medical Educator positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor levels in the Department of Medical Education. Faculty members will work to support all aspects of the COMLS and its pre-clinical curriculum, processes and procedures, and will have major responsibilities in teaching (large-group didactics, active learning and team-based learning sessions), assessment, and (with training, if required) pre-clinical course leadership. Faculty collaborate seamlessly with both basic science and clinical faculty to integrate and reinforce concepts throughout the curriculum and serve as content experts in developing educational and assessment materials. Specific content expertise preferred includes documented experience teaching physiology, pathology, anatomy, and histology. Successful candidates must be comfortable expanding their teaching portfolio to include new areas of instruction to foster a multi-disciplined path of career development

In Fall 2017, UT-COMLS implemented an 18 month-long systems-based undergraduate medical education foundational science curriculum embodying innovation and blended pedagogy. The curriculum fosters and builds upon integration of clinical and foundational sciences. The desired candidate will work collaboratively as a part a dynamic team of medical education professionals supporting and evolving all aspects of the new curriculum

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

  1. A Ph.D. in a related field and/or one of the following: MD., D.O. or the equivalent with substantial training/expertise in one of the content areas listed above
  2. Experience teaching in medical school and/or other health professions school environment
  3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with effective skills working in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants with the following additional attributes:

  1. Leadership in directing medical school courses with skills to motivate, encourage and lead faculty as a system or thread director
  2. Expertise and interest in teaching basic medical sciences. Preferred content expertise/experience includes physiology, pathology, anatomy and histology. Candidates with experience in teaching across multiple disciplines are preferred
  3. Experience in utilizing innovative pedagogical tools such as team-based learning, flipped classroom/active learning, and online course/content development
  4. Knowledge and/or understanding of LCME standards and competency based medical education
This medical educator position is 12-month salaried and fully funded. Salary, academic rank and tenure option are commensurate with experience. A comprehensive benefits package is included
