Nurse Monitor

NURSE MONITOR:   RN needed for minimum of 6 hours a week, $45/hour


THE AGENCY:  Cambridge Family & Childrens Service (CFCS) is one of the oldest human services agencies in Greater Boston. Today, CFCS provides services for foster and group care, adoption, developmental disabilities, and family support, all programs that support individuals and strengthen families in more than 100 cities and towns throughout Massachusetts.


PURPOSE:  The Nurse Monitor is an integral part of the congregate care team, working with one of our group homes to provide clinical monitoring to the programs Medication Administration Program (MAP).  The Nurse Monitor is required on site at least 6 hours each week at the boys' group home in Dorchester MA, addressing the distinct needs and challenges presented in having non-clinical staff administering medication to transition age youth (age 16-22). 



  • Provide ongoing quality assurance by monitoring medication administration systems to ensure compliance with DPH, DMH and DCF regulations, licensing requirements and MAP policies.

  • Assess issues and the technical functions related to medication administration that may be unique to adolescents in foster care.

  • Observe staff at the site prepare and administer medication in a manner consistent with MAP policies, procedures and protocols.

  • Ensure timely submission and follow up of Medication Occurrence Reports.

  • Communicates with State MAP coordinators and reports deficient practice of group home staff to supervisors and in accordance with MAP policies.

  • Works collaboratively with Program Directors and supervisors to address remedial training needs for certain staff.

  • Assesses certified staff medication administration competence in adherence to procedures and protocols outlined in the current approved MAP curriculum and MAP policy manual.

  • Assures that current versions of the Map policy manual and the MAP curriculum are readily available at all programs.


  • Registered Nurse with at least 2 years experience working as an R.N.

  • Previous experience working in a group home setting preferred.

  • Previous experience working with adolescent and high-risk population a plus.

  • Meeting the requirements of a certified MAP trainer (Medication Administration Program) preferred but not mandatory if willing to be trained. Must become certified within 30 days of hire.


Other requirements:

Clearance of background checks as required by state and federal law.
