Under the direction of the Summer Camp Director and in accordance with the Christian mission and purpose of the Great Miami Valley YMCA Association the Camp Nurse serves as the primary contact for medical issues, including illness and injury involving campers and staff. This position is also responsible for all health care functions including medication administration and adheres to all of the health care policies of YMCA Camp Campbell Gard and the American Camping Association standards. This position is an overnight position from Sunday-Friday and runs from June 5, 2022 until August 12th, 2022. The Camp Nurse position is a 10-week residential commitment.

  1. Provides care to all campers and staff ranging from minor incidents to more serious medical needs. Serves camper and staff members during camp periods.

  2. Coordinates with parents at check-in and check-out to speak with them regarding any medical concerns and accept/return medications.

  3. Manages the storages of all medications and ensures the accuracy and detail.

  4. Distributes medications based on prescription, standing orders, and parental consent.

  5. Documents all care given and medication dispensed.

  6. Assures compliance with the accreditation standards of the American Camp Association and all other related federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

  7. Maintains regular communication with the Camp Director regarding any significant medical issues with participants.

  8. Oversees all emergency medical situations.

  1. Education: Minimum LPN; current State of Ohio nursing license (RN) is preferred.

  2. Experience: Prior pediatric or emergency care experience preferred, along with the desire to work with children.

  3. Must have current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.

  4. Ability to relate to peers as well as campers.

  5. Exhibit the ability to place the needs of the campers and camp above their own.

  6. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with follow through actions regarding communications.

  7. Possess strong leadership skills, organization skills and attention to detail.

  8. Excellent customer service skills.

  9. Emotionally mature, willing to accept responsibility.

  10. Ability to treat confidential information with sensitivity.

  11. Must exhibit patience, sensitivity and understanding.
