Physician positions may be filled with this open continuous vacancy announcement within any CDC organization. This announcement will be used to fill positions in various geographical locations HHS-wide. DUTIES

SUMMARY

As a global leader in public health & health promotion, CDC is the agency Americans trust with their lives. The incumbent will serve as a Physician providing advice and consultation as a nationally or internationally recognized consultant and expert providing medical advice in support of other scientists.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Physician (Public Health) you will: Provide support to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in public health research and analyses. Perform duties involving the evaluation of medical research or the identification of causes or sources of disease or disease outbreaks. Apply epidemiological principles and/or procedures to investigate, review, analyze, and/or determine the cause(s) of problems, situations, inconsistencies, and/or issues related to programmatic degradation or systemic or causal parameters. Research findings which impact significant public health programs, issues, problems, processes, and procedures and/or the transmission of other causation of disease or public health issues or situations. Make substantive, multi-layered, and/or multi-dimensional recommendations and/or courses of action to carry out control procedures. Streamline public health processes and procedures, knowledge bases, and identify new ways to resolve programmatic issues that contribute to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the HHS disease prevention, control and health promotion mission. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Promotion potential: Please be advised there is no promotion potential for Physician positions, any position filled with this announcement will be filled at the single grade level requested. An optional Title 38 Physician and Dentist Pay (PDP) may be authorized in addition to base pay in order to recruit and retain highly qualified physicians.
Supervisory position: Yes. Since this is a supervisory position, candidates must also have demonstrated or shown the potential to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. A supervisory probationary period may be required. Applicants should describe any previous experience or responsibilities which could be used in relation to the supervisory requirements of this position. Time in grade (TIG) must be met within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications Requirements

Basic Qualifications for Physician Series, 0602: Applicants must possess a Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (external link); Association of American Medical Colleges (external link); Liaison Committee on Medical Education (external link); Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (external link), a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: For GP-13: Three years of residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled or possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service implementing and evaluating medical activities related to public health programs. For GP-14: Four years of residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled or possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service designing, implementing and evaluating medical activities related to public health programs. For GP15: Five years of residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled or possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service performing scientific, technical and programmatic medical activities to originate new techniques, establish criteria, or develop new information related to public health programs.


Note: A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (external link), (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) (external link). Public Trust/Moderate Background Investigation (5) is required. Public Trust/High Risk Background Investigation (6) is required.
