JOB SUMMARY:
THE CLOSING DATE ON THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS BEING EXTENDED FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS THROUGH 11/10/2020. This announcement will be used to fill positions located in Bamako, Mali, Kinshasa, DR Congo and Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire. CDC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

DUTIES:
As an Physician (Public Health/Bilingual) you will: Provide substantial input in the day-to-day technical and scientific planning, implementation, and analysis of the medical aspects of scientific research studies conducted by other scientists. Generate new hypotheses and develops new concepts, methods, and strategies for obtaining and using data on the major medical and health risks associated with various scientific public health programs. Plan and evaluates extensive, long-range scientific programs and projects targeting critical medical problems. Conceive, plans, evaluate, coordinates and implement activities related to research programs and projects. Possess an understanding of methods in various research activities in order to serve as a key advisor on the medical and epidemiological aspects of complex scientific studies and evaluation research. Serve as scientific/medical consultant for assigned grants, contracts, or cooperative agreements with State and local health departments, community-based organizations, and other governmental and non-governmental agencies and organizations. Perform non-clinical duties involving the evaluation of medical research or the identification of causes or sources of disease or disease outbreaks.

REQUIREMENTS:

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Basic Requirements:
Applicants must possess a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association http://www.ama-assn.org/councils/council-medical-education/about-council-medical-education; Association of American Medical Colleges http://www.aamc.org/; Liaison Committee on Medical Education http://www.chea.org/liaison-committee-medical-education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association http://osteopathic.org/accreditation/, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education http://ope.ed.gov/dapip/#/home at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) http://www.ecfmg.org/(http://www.ecfmg.org , a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. -An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) http://www.acgme.org/. -A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (AMA) http://www.aamc.org or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME http://www.acgme.org/ . -A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training. Additional Requirements: In addition to meeting the requirements listed above, applicants must have 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service designing, conducting and analyzing studies and surveillance projects related to medical activities in public health programs. Special Notes: -Term appointments may be shortened or extended up to a maximum of four years based on the needs of the agency without further competition. Subsequent employment for CDC positions must be through the appropriate competitive process or special employment program hiring authorities.
