The University of Cologne, Faculty of Medicine, invites applications for the following academic position:

W3-Professorship for Vascular Surgery

as per the requirements outlined in § 36 of the Universities act of North Rhine-Westphalia (HG NRW).

The Professorship is the Director of the Department of Vascular Surgery.

The responsibilities include the direction of the Department of Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital of Cologne, which implies outstanding surgical skills and clinical experience as well as an internationally recognized track record in research and excellent teaching capabilities.

The successful candidate will closely cooperate with related clinics of the University of Cologne, including the interdisciplinary Heart Center, Interventional Radiology and neighbouring Clinical Departments (e. g. Nephrology, Neurology, Orthopaedics, Dermatology) and the Clinical Trials Center Cologne (ZKS).

The candidate is specialized in Vascular Surgery, with extensive and well documented clinical experience, holding a Habilitation degree or having an equivalent academic qualification. A catalog of surgical interventions (endovascular and open vascular surgery) needs to be provided.

Expected is an internationally recognized expert with a strong track record of innovative research in the field of vascular surgery. We seek candidates open to integration with neighbouring fields, cooperative and committed to overreaching goals. The life science campus of Cologne provides excellent possibilities for scientific interactions with the Cologne Excellence Cluster on Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-associated Diseases (CECAD), the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC), several Comprehensive Research Centers (CRC) of the DFG and two Max Planck Institutes (MPI for Biology of Ageing and MPI for Metabolism Research) located on the Campus. It is expected that the Director of the Department will integrate with and further develop those established research areas with the management of an own internationally competitive research program and own applied third-party research funds.

Further requirements for application include extensive academic teaching experience in the Curriculum of human medicine, a postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation or equivalent) and very good command of the German language.
